About the Weekly Plein Air Class

Cost: $400 tuition

Class size: Minimum 7 students.

We are reviving the Friday afternoon painting class that ran from 2003 to 2011. Just as it was in the old days, this will be a fantastically enjoyable time together painting in response to local Portland vistas and other areas out of town. We’ll meet for lunch at noon at the day’s location, and over lunch I’ll talk with you about an aspect of the land and sky, light, composition and color to look out for and how to paint it. Then we’ll paint until at least 4 PM.

Of course, we’re all welcome to keep on painting after that. And we paint no matter the weather; there are many Rain Studios available, locations with cover and views. And the rain and other weather makes for engaging painting.

Portland areas we’ll likely paint: Mt. Tabor, East Esplanade on the Willamette,  Washington Park, Oak Grove, George Rogers Park in Lake Oswego, Bishops Close, the riverfront near Sellwood, Oaks Bottom, and many other places.

Outside of Portland: Sauvie Island, Jackson Bottom, Cooper Mountain, Helvetia Road,  Boring, Rooster Rock, even perhaps the Quarry near Cascade Locks.
